Lead magnets for life and mindset coaches that start a conversation

dmdrop team ยท

Most lead magnet advice for coaches is about building an email list: a 30-page ebook, an opt-in form, a five-email sequence. On Instagram, where people comment a word under a Reel and get your freebie in their DMs, that's the wrong shape.

On Instagram, the freebie is the start of a conversation. The best ones are small, quick to use, and make the person want to tell you something about themselves. That "something" is how you find out who's ready for coaching.

Here are lead magnets that work that way for life, mindset and confidence coaches, and what to say in the DM with each.

What makes a lead magnet start a conversation

  • Small. Five minutes to use, not a weekend. If they don't open it, it can't help you or them.
  • Personal. It asks them to reflect on their own situation, so they have an answer to share.
  • Specific. "Confidence at work" beats "become your best self".
  • One step from coaching. Using it should make the gap between where they are and where they want to be clearer, which is exactly what you help with.

1. A five-question reflection

Five questions on one page about the thing your Reel was about. For a Reel on people-pleasing: "Where did you say yes this week when you meant no?"

Keyword: REFLECT

DM:

Here are the 5 questions ๐Ÿ™ [link]

Take 5 minutes with them tonight. Which one do you think will be hardest for you?

  1. Saying no
  2. Asking for what I need
  3. Not over-explaining
  4. Not sure yet

The question in the DM is the conversation starter. Whatever they pick tells you where they're stuck.

2. A one-week tracker

A simple tracker for one habit or feeling: confidence before meetings, self-talk, energy. Seven boxes, one line each.

Keyword: TRACK

DM:

Here's the tracker [link]. One line a day, that's it.

What do you want to see change by the end of the week?

An open question works here because the tracker has already made them think about it.

3. A short audio

A five-minute guided audio: a pre-meeting confidence reset, a wind-down for overthinkers, a morning intention. Audio feels personal, and it's quick to make.

Keyword: RESET

DM:

When do you need it most?

  1. Before work or meetings
  2. When I'm overthinking at night
  3. Before hard conversations

4. A self-assessment with a score

Ten statements, rated 1 to 5, with a total that puts them in one of three groups ("running on empty", "getting there", "ready to stretch"). People love knowing where they stand, and they're likely to tell you their score.

Keyword: SCORE

DM:

Here's the self-check [link]. Takes about 3 minutes.

Send me your score when you're done and I'll tell you the one thing I'd focus on first.

This one asks for a reply on purpose. A coach offering a personal read on someone's score is a natural way into a real conversation.

5. A script for one hard moment

The exact words for one situation your audience dreads: asking for a raise, setting a boundary with family, saying no to extra work.

Is there a conversation like this coming up for you soon?

  1. Yes, this month
  2. At some point
  3. Just saving it

That last question is a qualifier in disguise: "yes, this month" means a real situation with a deadline.

Tell who's ready

Each DM above ends with a question. The answers sort people for you:

  • A real situation, happening soon ("yes, this month", a specific hard conversation, a low score they want to fix): reply personally, today. This is a coaching conversation.
  • Interested, no rush: answer warmly, share one useful thought, and let them come back.
  • Just saving it: nothing more. They got something useful from you.

For more on asking the right two questions, see Two questions that qualify a coaching lead.

Mind the 24 hours

On Instagram, a business can send one automated reply to a comment, and the conversation only continues once the person writes back. Then you have 24 hours to answer. That's why every DM above ends with a question, and why the people who answer deserve a fast reply. The details are in Instagram's DM rules for coaches.

Where dmdrop fits

dmdrop does this for life, mindset and personal development coaches: the freebie and the question go out when someone comments, you get an alert when someone's answer says they're ready, and you get a reminder before the reply window closes. It's free during the beta, and we let coaches in in small batches. Apply for early access.
